TWIN ASSIST HOOK
Twin assist hooks are specialized dual-hook rigs used in vertical jigging and shore jigging to maximize hook-up rates and prevent fish from throwing the lure. Unlike single hooks or treble hooks, they feature two hooks tied to a flexible cord (usually Kevlar or PE) that attaches to the top split ring of a jig.
- Higher Hook-up Rates: Dual hooks swing independently, increasing the chance of hooking a fish.
- Leverage Reduction: The flexible cord prevents fish from using the weight of the jig to wrench the hook free.
- Less Snagging: They ride above or alongside the jig body, making them less likely to snag rocks than bottom trebles.
- Double Holding Power: Often, one hook catches the mouth while the second hook pins the face or gill plate during the fight.
Key Features to Consider
- Cord Length: The hooks should generally hang between 1/3 and 1/2 the length of the jig body. If they are too long, they will tangle with each other or wrap around the line.
- Hook Orientation: They can be rigged facing inward (to reduce snags and line tangles) or facing outward (to maximize erratic hook points for fast-striking fish).
- Attractors: Many twin assist hooks feature tinsel, flashabou, or glow skins to mimic small baitfish eyes or fins, giving predators a specific target to strike.
