A white booby fly is a highly effective, buoyant pattern used in still-water fly fishing( such as lakes and reservoirs) to target trout. It is named for its distinctive, large foam "eyes" that make it float. When paired with a fast-sinking line, the fly hovers just off the bottom to entice strikes.

How the White Booby Fly Works

The Setup: Anglers typically use a short leader (18 to 24 inches) connected to a fast-sinking line.
The Action: The heavy line sinks to the lake bed, while the buoyant foam eyes pull the fly upward. When you pull the line, the fly dives downward; when you pause, it floats back up, mimicking an injured baitfish.
The White Pattern: The pure white color, often tied with pulsing white marabou tails, provides excellent contrast and high visibility in a variety of water clarities.
