DIVING FLASHLIGHT(Diving Torch)
A good diving flashlight (or dive torch) is vital for scuba diving, night dives, or exploring underwater caves and wrecks. It requires an IPX8 waterproof rating, sturdy construction, and a reliable battery to handle deep- water-pressure.
Key Features to Look For
- Brightness (Lumens): Ranging from 200 to 20,000 lumens, though a mid-range of 1,000–3,000 is typically ideal for most daytime and night dives. Ultra-bright lights can cause "backscatter" (glare) in murky water.
- Beam Angle: Narrow beams (under 20°) are best for piercing through murky water and signaling, while wide beams (20° to 45°+) are better for general sightseeing and underwater photography.
- Battery & Runtime: Always ensure your primary light has enough battery life for the duration of your dive, and consider carrying a smaller backup light.
- Switch Type: Mechanical or magnetic rotating rings are generally easier to operate with thick diving gloves compared to push buttons.
