- Model: DO METER
A portable dissolved oxygen (DO) meter a handheld device used to measure the concentration of oxygen dissolved in a liquid ,which is critical for assessing water quality.
Types of Portable DO Meter Technologies
- Optical (Luminescent): Emits blue light onto a luminescent sensor cap to measure oxygen concentration. They offer minimal maintenance, fast response times, and require no warm-up or electrolyte refills.
- Galvanic: Uses two distinct metals in an electrolyte solution to generate a spontaneous electrical current proportional to oxygen levels. They require no warm-up time but demand regular sensor cap replacements and electrolyte maintenance.
- Polarographic (Clark-Type): Applies an external voltage to drive a chemical reaction between an anode and cathode. They are highly accurate but require a few minutes of warm-up time before taking measurements.
Key Features to Look For
- Automatic Temperature Compensation (ATC): Water temperature heavily dictates oxygen solubility. ATC continuously self-corrects the readings to ensure ongoing precision.
- Salinity & Barometric Pressure Correction: High elevation or saltwater environments alter oxygen concentration. Look for models offering internal sensors or manual configurations for these variables.
- Ingress Protection (IP Rating): Devices intended for rugged environments should possess a minimum IP67 dust and waterproof rating to prevent water damage.
- Data Management: Modern kits store hundreds of internal data logs and include a USB or Bluetooth link for easy data export.
