An aquarium water heater is an electric device with in built thermostat used to warm and stabilize water temperatures inside a fish tank.
Where It Is Applicable
  • Tropical and Marine Tanks: Essential for keeping warm-water species like Discus, Angelfish, Tetras, and Bettas that need stable temperatures between 24°C and 28°C (75°F–82°F).
  • Planted Aquariums: Used to support sensitive live aquatic plants that suffer or melt during temperature drops.
  • Cool Indoor Environments: Needed when ambient room temperatures drop below the comfort range of your aquatic livestock, even for hardier fish.
  • Freshwater and Saltwater: Fully applicable to both types of aquatic systems, provided the model is rated for marine use.
Where It Is NOT Needed
  • Coldwater Tanks: Not required for coldwater or temperate species like goldfish, white cloud mountain minnows, or shubunkins that thrive at standard room temperatures.
  • Warm Climates/Rooms: Unnecessary if your home or room naturally maintains a steady, warm temperature matching your fish's ideal range
